dish cloth

Nothing as useful as a knitted dish cloth! A great project for a beginner. 
Sharing my pattern using basketweave stitch, with a nice neat selvedge edge.

Finished dimensions: approximately 20cms x 20cms
One 100 gram ball makes three dish cloths

k: knit
p: purl
sl: slip
 
MATERIALS
two needles size 4.5mm  (US 7)
dk/8ply dishcloth cotton
 
Basketweave pattern is multiples of 5, plus 2 extra stitches for selvage stitch
Selvage stitch: first stitch, slip stitch purlwise, last stitch, knit (for every row)
Cast on 42 sts.
ROW 1:  sl1 purlwise (k5, p5) 4 times, k1.
ROW 2:  sl1 purlwise (k5, p5) 4 times, k1.
ROW 3:  sl1 purlwise (k5, p5) 4 times, k1.
ROW 4:  sl1 purlwise (k5, p5) 4 times, k1.
ROW 5:  sl1 purlwise (k5, p5) 4 times, k1.
ROW 6:  sl1 purlwise (p5, k5) 4 times, k1.
ROW 7:  sl1 purlwise (p5, k5) 4 times, k1.
ROW 8:  sl1 purlwise (p5, k5) 4 times, k1.
ROW 9:  sl1 purlwise (p5, k5) 4 times, k1.
ROW 10: sl1 purlwise (p5, k5) 4 times, k1.
Repeat last ten rows four more times.
Total number of rows from start is 50.
Cast off.
Darn yarn ends away.
