Just writing up this pattern in time for Valentines Day. It uses scraps of 4 ply yarn. Once you start its hard to stop, its addictive!

kfb: increase, knit into front and back of same stitch
psso: pass slip stitch over
needles size 2.25mm/US 1
4 ply/fingering yarn
Heart (make 2)
Cast on 2 sts, leaving a long yarn tail for sewing up.
ROW 1: kfb, k1 (3 sts) right side
ROW 2: p.
ROW 3: kfb, kfb, k1 (5 sts).
ROW 4: p.
ROW 5: kfb, k2, kfb, k1 (7 sts).
ROW 6: p.
ROW 7: kfb, k4, kfb, k1 (9 sts).
ROW 8: p.
ROW 9: kfb, k3, turn work
Now there are 5 sts on right hand needle and 5 sts on left.
Continue with the 5 sts just worked.
ROW 10: p3, p2tog (4 sts).
ROW 11: sl1, k1, psso, k2 (3 sts).
ROW 12: sl1 purlwise, p1, psso, return this stitch to left hand needle, slip the last stitch of the row over stitch which has just been moved.
Rejoin yarn to the 5 sts
NEXT ROW: sl1, k1, psso, k1, kfb, k1 (5 sts).
NEXT ROW: sl1 purlwise, p1, psso, p3 (4 sts).
NEXT ROW: k2, k2tog (3 sts)
NEXT ROW: sl1 purlwise, p1, psso, return this stitch to left hand needle, slip the last stitch of the row over stitch which has just been moved.
Darn away the top three yarn tails on each heart piece on the reverse side.
Place two heart pieces wrong sides together.
Use off cuts of yarn tails to stuff, rolling in a ball and placing between the two halves.
Using the yarn tails at the bottom of the heart pieces catch the edges and sew two pieces together.
Using the needle push the “stuffing” in as you go. Push in any bumps and loops with the needle to make the edge as even as possible.
Then lose ends inside heart.
